Having gone the path of a professional rescuer, having felt many times the line behind which the human life ends, Alexander Ilyich tried to help every time to save. This was both in real rescuers and in numerous preventive actions in which he certainly took part.

Gofstein spends his free time in the climbing camps "Dombay", "Red Star". He heads the mining tourism Federation of Karachay-Cherkessia, holds many educational and sports events and schools for the preparation of public tourist and climbing personnel, paying great attention to the safety of tourist campaigns and townspeople.

He becomes a candidate for master of sports in mountaineering, an instructor in mountaineering of the 1st highest category, receives a personal token of the rescuer of the All-Union City Rescue Rescue. A public principle is led by Karachay-Cherkess voluntary rescue crew.

He simply attracted his personality, he dedicated us to the world of speleology, talked about caves. We went on campaigns with him, and for many of us, summer boys were a real discovery. In fact, he gave us this world of tourism, speleology.

And I think that if he taught something else, it would be no less interesting. If he taught ballroom dancing, I would probably have taken care of a ballet. Because the impression was created that in any area, in any area in which he begins to tell, he understands all this. It was very unusual and very interesting. Thus, he set the direction in my life: I liked tourism, mountaineering.

Then our paths somehow parted.Army service, work at the factory and I met it somewhere on the street in the years. He told me that the search and rescue service was organized, and the head of this service is familiar to him and he gave me a recommendation. Well, I naturally went there, I was hired. It was the world that was familiar to me, interesting, where there were ice axes, ropes, climbing equipment, because then mostly the search and rescue service was engaged in the help and salvation of climbers.

The tasks that stood in front of the Ministry of Emergencies were not so wide. There was a period of formation. And after some time, Hofstein himself came to our work.
