Biography General Frolov

During stubborn battles, Soviet troops tore off the German command plan to master the ports of the Arctic Ocean and strategic deposits of minerals on the Kola Peninsula. And a large role in this was played by the commander of the Karelian front, General Valerian Alexandrovich Frolov. Unfortunately, in comparison with the widely known Marshals of Victory, he was not too lucky with loud glory.

Nevertheless, according to the experience of battles on the extremely difficult and natural conditions of the Northern Theater of military operations equal to him, the military leader was probably not, anywhere and never - it was, figuratively speaking, he defended the Soviet North. In our publication today, we want to pay tribute to this commander. Colonel General V. was born the future general on June 7 in St.

Petersburg. The son of a small employee, the summer young man, he fell into the trenches of the First World War as part of the Life Guards of the Moscow Regiment. He proved himself a brave man, his tin residue was decorated with soldier's "George" and non-commissioned officer. After the October Revolution of the Year, colleagues elected Valerian the platoon commander. Then, having unconditionally accepting the Soviet regime, in February he was one of the first to voluntarily joined the Red Army.

During the Civil War, he participated in battles on the Karelian Isthmus with Finnish interventionists, took part in the defense of Petrograd from the troops of General N. Biography General Frolov

Against the backdrop of the failures of neighbors during the Soviet-Finnish war. At the same time, the loss of the army was relatively small. Murmansk operation of the Red Army. The commanderly assessed the situation and, by his decision, put forward the troops to the border, despite the strict order from above "not to give in to provocations." By mid -July, Frolov stopped the bloodless enemy in kilometers east of the border.

The right flank of the war was the most durable: despite all efforts, the Germans could not advance forward. In September, Lieutenant General was appointed commander of the troops of the newly formed Karelian front. The situation of his armies could be called critical: the Finns were eager for the Kirov Railway, tried to go to the pigs. The commander understood: if Mannerheim connects with the Germans, Leningrad will be in a double ring and is unlikely to resist, if Belomorsk takes-the path for the supply of allies on the Lend-Lisa will be blocked.

The situation was complicated by the lack of strength and means. Frolov decided to take a strict defense. Actively maneuvering with meager reserves, unexpectedly for the enemy, applying counterattacks, by the end of the year the Soviet general was able to disrupt the plans of the Nazis. For almost three years, the Karelian front was constrained by about half of the Finnish army and large forces of German troops.

In February, the rate was appointed commander of the front of the Army General Meretskov, and Colonel General Frolov became his deputy. This decision, perhaps, was somewhat offended by a well -deserved general, holding the front of the front for two and a half years on his shoulders. But the deputy of Cyril Afanasevich, he turned out to be worthy. The liberation of Karelia and the Arctic in the summer-Seniy of the city is largely owed to the coherence of the formations that had the experience of conducting hostilities in the harsh conditions of the Arctic prepared by General Frolov.

The evacuation of the wounded. The Karelian Front, G., who served with Frolov, spoke of him as a "father-commander." The general was strict and demanding, but did not seek to bring fear on subordinates. There was always a vigor, and this mood conveyed to others. With his subordinates, he was restrained and polite, very carefully and carefully treated people. Unhurried, examined, he never neglected the opinion of the younger ones in position.

Having retired in the fall of the year, the commander settled in Leningrad, where he died on January 6. In front of the coffin, three orders of Lenin, four were placed on the mourning pillows, the battle of the Red Banner, the Order of Kutuzov 1st degree, Bogdan Khmelnitsky of the 1st degree, the Red Star and the medal, among which, perhaps for him, “for the defense of the Arctic”.

Did you know that: - On September 6, in a battle with the Poles near Grodno, Valerian Frolov was wounded and received a strong contusion, from which he suffered until the end of his life. Moreover, in the Far North, the enemy could not overcome even the line of the state border in the area of the Rybachy Peninsula, where border posts remained untouched.Currently, in the building, where the front headquarters was located during the war years, the Museum of the Karelian Front is working.

Among other exhibits, a German lighter, taken by V. Frolov as a trophy in Spain, is stored here. Frolov is named streets in Petrozavodsk and Murmansk.
