Dantes and Pushkin Biography
He studied at the Saint-Sir Military School, which, however, did not graduate, being, according to one version, excluded for the views of the school contradicting the rules, or, according to another version, making a voluntary decision to leave the educational institution. Arriving in Russia, he entered the service in the cavalry guard regiment, having previously composed the legend of his own participation in the Vandadeian uprising of the year, the falsity of which was subsequently proven by A.
Petersburg society recognized Dantes thanks to Louis Haeckern, the messenger of the Netherlands court. It should be noted that Dantes's mother had already died by that time, but her father was alive, so Haeckern’s proposal to adopt Dantes was perceived by society as an unusual and amazing phenomenon. This adoption contradicted the laws of the Russian Empire - Louis Gekkern was not yet 50 years old, and his new son was already adult - and yet it was officially recognized.
Dantes was given the right to be called the Dutch nobleman. There were a variety of rumors in the society: some claimed that the Geckern Sr. and Dantes were in distant relationship, that it was soon refuted, others said that Dantes was the illegitimate son of Heckern, but there was no evidence of this data. Most researchers believe that the relationship between Dantes and Geckern was far from son-paternal.
An anonymous message came to Pushkin by mail, in which the poet was called a “cuckold”, and also said the attention of not only Dantes, but also the king to his wife Pushkin. It was not exactly established who the letter was written, since the handwriting did not coincide with either the handwriting of Dantes or the hekker-senior. There is an assumption that it was compiled by Dantes's ill -wishers.
Nevertheless, the angry Pushkin immediately sent Dantes a call to a duel, not counting with Zhukovsky’s persuasion not to do this.
Exactly a week after the call, Dantes made an offer to Natalia’s sister, Ekaterina Goncharova, thus becoming an indirect relative to Pushkin, as a result of which the latter had to recall the call. However, rumors, gossip and various kinds of “barracks puns” around the Pushkin family did not subside. In the year, Dantes received a new challenge to the duel from Pushkin, during which the poet was mortally wounded.
Since duels were considered an illegal act in the Russian Empire, the case was given to the court. Dantes was unclenched into ordinary and expelled from Russia, Pushkin’s second, Colonel Danzas, was not unclenched due to his past merits, but was left for several months under arrest. The guilt of the deceased Pushkin was decided to betray. Having left Russia, Dantes went to France, where he began to build a political career, and very successful: he was the chairman of the General Council, the mayor of the city of Sulz, then the senator, even later the commander of the honorary legion.
In old age, Dantes was very proud of his own achievements in the political arena and said that it was precisely the duel with Pushkin that pushed him on this path, and if he had not been unclenched, perhaps his life would not have developed so successfully. The only grief of Dantes was his third daughter from Ekaterin Goncharova. Leoni-Sharlotta was incredibly fond of Pushkin. The girl had the ability to languages, which allowed her to learn Russian and read the works of Pushkin.
Dantes, who did not read a line from Pushkin in his life, was furious. Portraits of a long -standing enemy looked at him from the walls in the room. The last straw was the exclamation of the daughter once at dinner, addressed to his father: “Killer! Unable to endure this anymore, Dantes accused his daughter of madness and locked in the house for the insane, where she soon died.
The writer Paul Ervieu wrote, telling about his meeting with Dantes that, despite the success of Dantes in the political field, which he was so proud of, Ervieu at the time of the meeting did not hear anything about Dantes, except that he was more than half a century ago! Nadezhda Rogozhnikova.
