The family belonged to a small construction shop where a sawn stone was sold. From childhood, he helped his father, and at the age of 15 he already made drawings of plastering ornaments on his own. In OM, the young man went to Berlin and began to work first with Bruno Paul, and a few years later, from the year, in the workshop of Peter Berens. It was here that he met Walter Gropius and Le Corbusier, began to look for new architectural forms and create his first projects, the series of which was opened by the Crelli house in The Hague, created in the city of inspired by success, he opened his own bureau a year later.

In the city, the young architect decided to change his name to a more sonorous, adding the maiden name of his mother. Being a adherent of aesthetic functionalism, Ludwig MiS Van der Roe developed a series of experimental projects of office buildings and skyscrapers of GG. In OM, Ludwig MIS Van der Roay makes a monument to Karl Liebknecht and Rosa Luxembourg, which was recognized as a significant memorial object in the history of Germany.

A year later, he presented a project for a house for the Vaysenhof village at the international exhibition of a dwelling in Stuttgart, in which only the roof and functional rooms had deaf walls. Subsequently, this idea of ​​a simple universal shape was continued in the Farnsuort house in Fox-River GG. One of the outstanding achievements of Ludwig MiS Van der Rue was the organization of the construction of the German pavilion at the international exhibition in Barcelona in the city thanks to the use of semiprecious stones for glazing the onyx building, polished travertine and the effect of water reflection, the design he created was an exhibit and brought the architect of world recognition.

Within the framework of this project, Ludwig MiS Van der Roe presented his own collection of Barcelona designer furniture, the key object of which was the Barcelona Chair of the same name. Made of genuine leather with a monolithic steel frame and a supplemented by the foot of Egyptian chairs, it was awarded to Ludwig MiS Van der Roe forced to emigrate to America, not wanting to stay in Germany’s Nazis.
